Transportation Services - PCSF
Transportation is provided to seniors for medical, dental and essential business appointments only. The cost to seniors is per trip one way:
- Ambulatory - $4.00
- Wheelchair - $6.00
Seniors are eligible for an unlimited number of rides. A 50 mile limit per 1-way ride will apply and will include the area as far north as St. Joseph, Missouri and as far west as Atchison, Kansas. Staff may use discretion in an extreme situation. Transportation to Adult Day Healthcare will be provided for a maximum of two days weekly.
To arrange transportation, call 816-270-2800 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please note a minimum of 24 hours notice is required.

- Grocery shopping
- Social events organized through PSSI

Personal Safety Monitoring
PCSF provides the following services to seniors for personal safety monitoring:
- Telephone link to trained professionals. It will also alert family, neighbors, friends or emergency services.
- Waterproof pendant or wristband help buttons.

Blood Pressure Screenings
The Visiting Nurse Association provides free Blood Pressure Screenings at PSSI the second Friday of the month from 11:30-12:30.

Home Repair (Co-pay applies)
Seniors needing minor home repairs can get the help they need by contacting the Platte County Senior Fund. Limited major repair assistance is available. Costs are structured in a co-pay format based on income.
Minor Home Repair
- Minor plumbing and electrical concerns, accessibility, carpentry, necessary painting after repair, gutter guards, gutter cleaning one time yearly, glass/screen replacement, caulking, stair repair, lock repair, fence repair, weatherization, heating/air conditioning, microwave ovens, major appliance repair, etc. No cosmetic painting or facelift work, no TV repair or trash compactor repairs.
- Minor repair household allowance is $600 per household per year.
- FREE furnace inspections every two years.
Major Home Repair
Acceptable repairs or home modifications include: furnace replacement, air conditioning replacement/installation, chair lifts, remodeling for accessibility and other repairs deemed appropriate. Heating and air conditioning repair provided by qualified technicians. Furnace inspections with carbon monoxide testing completed for all clients at no cost every two years. Furnace inspection will not be counted against household minor home repair allotment.

Everyone needs to have social interaction. A place to come and see friends, take a class, work on a craft project, or hang out and play cards. PSSI has made sure great resources await you at the Platte County Senior Resource Center. Things like:

In-home Services (Co-pay applies)
Seniors can access the kind of help they need to remain independent. Services such as:
- Assistance with personal hygiene
Assistance with bathing, toileting, shampooing, shaving, dressing, meal preparation, etc. by a certified nurse's aid, home health aid or personal care assistant.
Average: two hours two times weekly. Maximum: two hours three times weekly.
- Homemaker Care
Light housekeeping, laundry, errand running, grocery shopping, etc. Client is responsible for any mileage expenses. Caregivers may not transport clients.
Average: two hours every other week. Maximum: two hours once weekly for extreme cases.
- Respite care
Caregiver relief provided by a certified nurse's aid, home health aid or personal care attendant (personal care is to be provided, if necessary). Caregiver must be providing 24 hour care for a homebound or bedfast individual.
Average: eight hours a week. Maximum: sixteen hours a week. The maximum is allowed only in extreme cases of need.

Adult Day Healthcare (Co-pay applies)
Caregiver relief at a designated center for up to twelve hours a day. Meals, medication administration, activities and rest are provided for the client. Skilled staff on site at all times.
Authorized criteria for clients is two days per week. Transportation will only be provided a maximum of two days weekly.
BreakTime Club (Shepherds Center)
BreakTime Club is designed to provide a safe, enriching and enjoyable environment for older adults with some physical limitations. The program provides a variety of recreational and educational activities and provides Caregivers with the opportunity to relax or take care of personal business.

The Senior Exercise Resource Guide for the Northland is now available!This is a valuable tool to help older adults find safe and effective exercise programs as well as falls prevention information.

The Missouri Senior Report identified injuries from falls as the number one cause of death or nursing home admission in Platte County. Falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented. Exercises that improve balance, gait and flexibility can help prevent falls. PCSF offers a subsidy to seniors to participate in classes through the YMCA. PCSF will pay the enrollment fee of $30 for two of the classes listed below per year. Visit one of the Platte County Community Centers and provide the membership representative with proof of age and residency to get started.
